I recently was lucky enough to visit Amsterdam recently on a non-spotting weekend, but as usual had the chance to log a few upon arrival and departure. Flights were with EZY to/from London Luton which all went without a hitch, and were about £40 each way which was only marginally more expensive to park the car atthe airport MSCp for 2 days! Travelling to the city from Schipol is very easy and for 4.5 euro you can catch a train from Schipol Plaza to Centraal in about 20 minutes. The weather was grotty during the first part of our stay but GA aircraft were visible below the cloud as they overflew the city on approach to the easternmost runway at Schipol. When conditions improved, quite a lot of aircraft could be seen on approach or turning downwind.
The viewing deck at Schipol is currently closed for refurbishment, therefore any viewing from within the airport needs to be done from within the terminal. Our flight back departed from the G gates, and from this pier some good photos could be had of aircraft passing by or turning into the cul-de-sacs. A walk around the terminal airside yields good views of most things, with good photo ops – through glass.
